This PNG to JPG converter turns large PNG screenshots, scans and exports into much smaller JPEG files that upload faster and fit inside email limits. You choose the quality and the colour behind any transparent areas; the conversion runs privately in your browser.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Add PNG files

Drop .png files on the converter, press Ctrl/Cmd+V to paste a screenshot, or click "Choose files".

  2. Set quality and background

Leave quality at 90% for a good balance, or lower it for smaller files. Transparent pixels get the background colour you pick (white by default).

  3. Download the JPGs

Each JPG shows how much smaller it is. Download them one at a time or together as a ZIP.

What is a PNG file?

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless image format from the mid-1990s. Lossless means the file stores every pixel exactly, which makes PNG ideal for screenshots, diagrams, text and logos with sharp edges. It also supports transparency.

The cost is size. A photo saved as PNG can be five to ten times larger than the same photo as a JPG, because PNG's compression works best on flat colours, not on the fine noise and gradients in real-world pictures. Screenshots of photos, phone wallpapers and scanned documents often end up as huge PNGs for that reason.

JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photos. It throws away detail your eyes are unlikely to notice and keeps the rest, which is how it gets so small. For anything photographic, converting PNG to JPG is the quickest way to save space.

Why use OneDropConvert?

  • Private. PNGs are converted by your browser and never uploaded, which matters for screenshots of documents, chats or account pages.
  • You control transparency. Pick the fill colour instead of getting an unexpected black background.
  • See the savings. Every file shows its new size and the percentage saved.
  • Batch it. Up to 50 images per batch, one ZIP download.
  • Free, no watermark, no account.

Convert PNG screenshots to JPG for email and chat

Screenshots on Windows and macOS are saved as PNG by default. One full-screen screenshot on a high-resolution display can easily be 3–8 MB, which adds up fast when you're attaching several to an email or a support ticket.

Converting them to JPG at 85–90% quality usually cuts the size by 70–90% while keeping text readable. If the screenshot is mostly text and you notice soft edges, raise the quality to 95%.

When the image has a transparent background, like a logo exported from a design tool, decide what should replace it. White suits documents and most websites; pick your brand colour if the logo will sit on a coloured banner. If you need to keep the transparency, stay with PNG or try JPG to WebP, which accepts PNGs and keeps the alpha channel at a fraction of the size.

FAQ

Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG is lossy. Photos look the same at 85–90% quality. Text, line art and pixel graphics can show faint blur around edges; use a higher quality or keep those as PNG.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG has no transparency, so those pixels are filled with the background colour from Options. White is the default; you can pick any colour.

How much smaller will my JPG be?

For photos and screenshots of photos, typically 70–90% smaller. For simple graphics with flat colour the saving is smaller, and sometimes PNG is already the better format.

Is PNG to JPEG the same as PNG to JPG?

Yes. JPEG and JPG are two names for the same format. The files we create use the .jpg extension, which every app recognises.

Can I convert many PNG files at once?

Yes, up to 50 per batch. They are processed in parallel and can be downloaded together as a ZIP.

Are my screenshots uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to our servers or anyone else's.
