This JPG to WebP converter makes your website images lighter without visible quality loss. It also converts PNG to WebP and keeps transparency. Everything runs in your browser, so you can convert an entire folder of site images privately and quickly.

How to convert JPG to WebP

  1. Add JPG or PNG files

Drop images onto the converter or click "Choose files". You can mix JPGs and PNGs.

  2. Set the quality

The default 90% suits most sites. 75–85% saves more and still looks good for photos.

  3. Download WebP files

Each row shows the size saved. Download files individually or as a ZIP to upload to your site.

What is WebP, and why use it on a website?

WebP is an image format designed by Google for the web. It supports both lossy compression (like JPG) and lossless compression with transparency (like PNG), usually producing noticeably smaller files than either at the same visual quality.

Every major browser now supports WebP, including Safari since version 14 on macOS Big Sur and later. That makes it a safe default for website images.

Smaller images mean faster page loads, which improves the experience for visitors on mobile data and helps with Google's Core Web Vitals, particularly Largest Contentful Paint. Converting your existing JPGs and PNGs is one of the easiest speed wins available.

Why use OneDropConvert?

  • Fully local. Your site images are converted in the browser and never uploaded.
  • Transparency kept. PNGs with transparent backgrounds stay transparent as WebP.
  • Works in every browser. If your browser can't encode WebP itself, a built-in encoder does it instead.
  • Batch conversion. Up to 50 images at once with one ZIP download.
  • Free, no account, no watermark.

Convert images to WebP for your website

For a typical small-business site, the biggest files are hero banners, team photos and product images. Converting those from JPG to WebP at 80–85% quality commonly saves 25–35% per image with no visible difference. PNG graphics with transparency often shrink even more.

Before converting, resize images to the largest size they'll actually display. There's no point serving a 4000 px photo in a 1200 px column; resize image handles that in one batch. Then convert to WebP here and upload.

Most site builders and WordPress (since version 5.8) accept WebP uploads directly. If you need to support very old browsers, keep a JPG fallback; otherwise WebP alone is fine. When a visitor or client sends you a WebP they can't open, WebP to JPG converts it back.

FAQ

Is WebP better than JPG?

For websites, usually yes: smaller files at the same quality, plus optional transparency. For sharing with people who use older software, JPG is still more compatible.

Can I convert PNG to WebP?

Yes. Drop PNG files in the same way. Transparent areas are kept.

What quality should I use for WebP?

80–90% is a good range for photos. For graphics and screenshots, use 90% or higher to keep edges crisp.

Do all browsers support WebP images?

All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera do, on desktop and mobile.

Why is a WebP sometimes larger than the original?

If the original JPG was already very compressed, re-encoding at high quality can make it slightly larger. Lower the quality a little and convert again.

Is my image data uploaded?

No. Conversion happens on your device. The page only connects to our own server and, with your consent, Google Analytics; your images are never sent to either.
