Need an exact size limit? Compress to 100 KB
This free tool lets you compress images without uploading them. Drop in JPG, PNG or WebP files and get smaller versions in the same format, with a quality slider when you want more control. It's an image compressor that keeps your pictures private by working entirely in your browser.
How to compress images
Add your images
Drop JPG, PNG or WebP files onto the box or click "Choose files". You can mix formats in one batch.
Adjust if you like
The default 75% quality usually cuts size by half or more with no visible change. Untick "Keep original dimensions" to also cap the width.
Download smaller files
Each row shows the new size and the percentage saved. Download one by one or all together as a ZIP.
What is image compression?
Image compression means storing the same picture in fewer bytes. There are two kinds. Lossy compression (used by JPG and most WebP files) throws away detail that's hard to see, like tiny colour variations in a blue sky. Lossless compression (PNG) finds a more efficient way to write the exact same pixels.
For JPG and WebP, this compressor re-encodes the image at the quality you choose. Phone cameras usually save at very high quality, so dropping to 70–80% often halves the file with no difference you'd notice on screen.
PNG is lossless, so making it smaller means reducing the number of colours. We use a smart colour-reduction method that keeps edges and gradients looking clean. Screenshots and graphics usually shrink a lot; detailed photos saved as PNG shrink less, and are often better converted to JPG.
Why use OneDropConvert?
- Private compression. Your images never leave your device, which matters for ID scans, receipts and personal photos.
- Same format out as in. JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP.
- Location data removed. Compressed files don't carry GPS or camera details.
- Honest results. If a file is already as small as it can get, we tell you instead of making it bigger.
- 10 free images a day, no sign-up, no watermark. Pro removes the daily limit.
Reduce image size for websites and email
Large images are the most common reason a web page loads slowly. A hero photo straight from a phone can be 4–6 MB; compressed to 75% quality and capped at 1600–2000 px wide, the same photo is typically 200–400 KB and looks identical on a laptop screen. Smaller pages load faster and rank better in search.
Email is the other everyday case. Many providers limit attachments to around 20–25 MB in total, and big attachments are slow to send on mobile. Compressing a batch of holiday photos before attaching them keeps you well under the limit.
If you have a hard size limit, such as "maximum 100 KB" on an application form, use compress to 100 KB instead: it finds the best quality that fits automatically. To change the pixel dimensions precisely, use resize image.
FAQ
Does compressing an image reduce its quality?
For JPG and WebP, slightly, but at 70–80% quality the change is very hard to see. For PNG, colours are reduced, which is invisible on most screenshots and graphics. You can always raise the quality slider.
How much smaller will my images get?
Phone photos usually shrink by 40–80%. Images that were already compressed for the web may shrink very little, and we'll tell you when that happens.
Can I compress PNG files and keep transparency?
Yes. PNGs stay PNG and keep their transparent areas. Only the number of colours is reduced.
Will the image dimensions change?
Not unless you want them to. "Keep original dimensions" is on by default. Untick it to set a maximum width, which saves even more space.
Is it safe to compress private photos here?
Yes. The compressor runs in your browser and never uploads files. The site's security settings only let the page contact our own server and, with your consent, Google Analytics, and neither receives your images.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes, up to 50 per batch, in any mix of JPG, PNG and WebP. Download them together as a ZIP.
Why did one image not get smaller?
Some images are already heavily compressed. Re-encoding them can't save much, so we keep the result close to the original and note "already well compressed".
