Use this JPG to PNG converter when an app, template or print service asks for PNG, or when you plan to edit an image many times and don't want quality to drop with every save. Files are converted inside your browser and never uploaded.

How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. Select your JPGs

Drop .jpg or .jpeg files onto the box, paste an image, or click "Choose files".

  2. Convert automatically

Each image is converted to PNG on your device as soon as it is added. There are no quality settings because PNG is lossless.

  3. Download PNGs

Save single files or use "Download all (ZIP)". Photos come out upright, even if your camera stored them rotated.

What is a JPG file?

JPG (or JPEG, after the Joint Photographic Experts Group that designed it in 1992) is the most common photo format in the world. Cameras, phones and websites use it because it keeps photos small by discarding fine detail that people rarely notice.

That trade-off has a downside: every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it is compressed again and a little more detail is lost. After many rounds you start to see blocky patches and smudged edges, especially around text and sharp lines.

PNG stores pixels without loss. Converting a JPG to PNG won't bring back detail that JPG compression already removed, but it stops any further loss from happening, and it gives you a format that supports transparency once you start cutting out backgrounds.

Why use OneDropConvert?

  • Stays on your device. No upload, no server copy, no account.
  • Upright every time. We read the camera's orientation flag so photos don't turn sideways in the PNG.
  • Location removed. GPS and camera details from the JPG are not copied into the PNG.
  • Batch conversion. Up to 50 images at once with a single ZIP download.
  • No watermark and no cost.

Convert a JPEG to PNG before editing

If you're going to add text, remove a background or retouch a photo over several sessions, start from a PNG. Each save keeps the image exactly as it is, so the tenth version looks as good as the first.

Some tools insist on PNG too: certain sticker and emoji makers, game asset pipelines, print-on-demand shops that want "a high-resolution PNG", and some online forms for logos and signatures. Converting satisfies those checks without changing how the image looks.

Be aware that PNGs of photos are big, often four to eight times the size of the JPG. When you're done editing and want to share the result, convert it back with PNG to JPG, or use JPG to WebP for a small file that still supports transparency.

FAQ

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. It can't restore detail the JPG already lost. What it does is prevent any further loss when you edit and save the image again.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

Not automatically. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG starts fully opaque. You can then remove the background in an image editor and the PNG will keep that transparency.

Why is my PNG so much bigger?

PNG compression is lossless and isn't designed for photographic detail. Larger files are expected. Use PNG for editing and JPG or WebP for sharing.

My photo was sideways in other converters. Will it be here?

No. Phones often save photos rotated and add an orientation tag. We apply that tag before saving, so the PNG is upright.

Can I convert JPEG to PNG on iPhone or Android?

Yes. Open this page in your mobile browser, tap "Choose images", select photos and download the PNGs.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB and you can add 50 at a time. Very large photos may be slow on older phones.
