Use this HEIC to PNG converter when you want an exact, lossless copy of an iPhone photo for editing, design work or printing. PNG never adds compression artefacts, and every file is converted locally in your browser without being uploaded.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Choose your HEIC files

Drag .heic or .heif photos onto the converter, paste them, or tap "Choose photos" on your phone.

  2. Convert on your device

Each photo is decoded and saved as a PNG right in this tab. There are no settings to worry about: PNG is lossless.

  3. Save the PNG files

Download photos one by one, or grab them all at once with "Download all (ZIP)".

What is a HEIC file, and why turn it into PNG?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is how iPhones store photos by default. It squeezes images using HEVC video compression, so photos take up much less space than JPGs. The trade-off is that a lot of software, from Windows apps to web design tools, still can't open it.

PNG is the opposite kind of format. It's lossless: every pixel is saved exactly, with no blurring or blocky artefacts, no matter how many times you open and save the file. It also supports transparency, which matters once you start cutting out backgrounds in an editor.

That makes HEIC to PNG the right choice when the photo is a starting point rather than the finished product: retouching, adding text, building a collage or sending a file to a print shop that asks for "the highest quality".

Why use OneDropConvert?

  • Private by design. The conversion happens in your browser; the photos are never sent anywhere.
  • GPS and camera data removed. The PNG holds the picture only, not where it was taken.
  • True lossless output. No quality slider, because nothing is thrown away.
  • Handles batches. Convert up to 50 photos together and download them as one ZIP.
  • Free with no account. No watermark, no email, no upload queue.

iPhone photo to PNG for editing and design

Design tools such as Canva, Figma and many website builders accept PNG everywhere, while HEIC support is patchy. Converting first means your photo imports cleanly and keeps every detail.

PNG files are bigger than HEIC or JPG, often three to six times larger, because nothing is compressed away. That's normal. If you only need to share or upload the photo, HEIC to JPG gives you much smaller files that look almost identical.

A good workflow is: convert to PNG, edit, then export the finished image as JPG or WebP for the web. Our PNG to JPG converter handles that last step.

FAQ

Is PNG better quality than JPG for iPhone photos?

PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel exactly as decoded from the HEIC. JPG discards a little detail to save space. For editing, PNG is safer; for sharing, JPG is usually good enough and much smaller.

Why is my PNG so much larger than the HEIC?

HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression. PNG stores the image without loss, so a 2 MB HEIC can easily become a 10–15 MB PNG. Nothing is wrong with the file.

Does HEIC to PNG keep transparency?

Regular iPhone photos have no transparent areas, so the PNG will be fully opaque. If a HEIC does contain an alpha channel, it is kept in the PNG.

Are my photos uploaded to convert them?

No. All decoding and encoding runs locally in your browser.

Can I convert HEIC to PNG on a Mac or iPhone without an app?

Yes. This page works in Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad. On iPhone, tap "Choose photos", pick from your library, then save the PNGs to Files.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Up to 50 per batch, each up to 100 MB. Very large batches depend on your device's memory; if a phone struggles, convert in smaller groups.
